On passing the Constitution, we citizens expressed our desire to establish justice, liberty and security and to promote the well-being of all by seeking to guarantee democratic coexistence within the Constitution and the laws in accordance with a fair economic and social order.
Concern about, and interest in, the rights of children and adolescents, especially those who are in vulnerable situations, has been a continuous feature of Defensor del Pueblo's activity since the office was founded.
Soledad Becerril Bustamante, is the first woman elected Defensora del Pueblo and was approved by the full House and Senate on 17 and 18 July 2012, respectively. She took office on 23rd of the same month.
The Defensor del Pueblo is the High Commissioner of the Parliament responsible for defending the fundamental rights and civil liberties of citizens by monitoring the activity of the Administration and public authorities.
