What is the Defensor?

The Defensor del Pueblo is the High Commissioner of the Parliament responsible for defending the fundamental rights and civil liberties of citizens by monitoring the activity of the Administration and public authorities.

The Defensor and the Rights of children

Concern for and interest in the rights of children and adolescents, especially those who are in vulnerable situations, has been a continuous feature of the activity of the Defensor del Pueblo.

How to file a complaint?

Describe the problem clearly and simply, indicating the name of the administration (government office or agency) with which you disagree. Include your full name and mailing address, your phone number and email address.

National Preventive Mechanism

The Spanish Parliament decided in late 2009 to assign the status of National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) to the Defensor del Pueblo, through the Organic Law 1/2009 of 3rd November 2009.
