The Ombudsman’s Deputy Assistant, Patricia Bárcena, convened this Monday at the Ombudsman’s Office with the head of the protection unit, UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Marta García.

The meeting was used to discuss the situation of Ukrainian refugees in Spain, who have arrived in the last few weeks, their eligibility for international asylum at the border and in national territory, and the situation of foster minors in the Canary Islands.

Both UNHCR and the Ombudsman’s Office will continue with their joint effort to uphold the rights of refugees and applicants for international asylum.

On behalf of UNHCR, the meeting was also attended by Margarita de la Rasilla and María Vallés. The Ombudsman was represented by the head of Migrations & Equal Treatment.
