Humanitarian aid for Aleppo (Syria)

Humanitarian aid for Aleppo (Syria)

08-19-2016

If it is not possible to stop the war in Syria, providing humanitarian aid is the least that the West can do. The UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, has called for a pause in the attacks “that allows supplies and assistance personnel into the city of Aleppo and other parts of Syrian territory where the population is desperate”.

The video of Omran might achieve it. Social networks, so swift when it comes to insults and verbal aggressions, might pause as well, and appeal for humanitarian aid. We at the Office of the Ombudsman support the petition of the United Nations special envoy in Syria.

As the United Nations has stressed, World Humanitarian Aid Day on 19 August serves as a reminder that “tonight, 130 million people in the world will go to sleep needing some kind of crucial help or protection because they have been affected by wars, violence or natural disasters”.
