Immigrants at Ceuta border fence

The Office of the Ombudsman (Defensor del Pueblo), in the light of the fact that a number of people from Morocco are at Ceuta border fence, reiterates that Spanish law and international law do not allow people to be sent back to their country automatically without their circumstances having been checked on an individual basis. The Office of the Ombudsman asks for the security forces at the border to check whether they are people who may have the right to seek asylum or international protection.

This is the position held by the Ombudsman institution in accordance with current legislation and with the principles on Human Rights derived from the Convention.
