The Ombudsman hands in three reports to Parliament

The Ombudsman has handed in to Parliament a summary of activities for the first six months of the year, the NPM (National Torture Prevention Mechanism) report for 2015 and the paper “Asylum in Spain: international protection and the resources of the intake system”.

Summary of the first six months

In the period from January to June 2016 the Office of the Ombudsman (Defensor del Pueblo) took 8,970 actions, drafted 748 resolutions to be put before government authorities and opened 494 own-initiative inquiries. Most of the complaints submitted have to do with public function and employment matters, economic activity and the administration of justice.

Study on asylum in Spain

The report analyses the situation of the asylum system and makes 26 recommendations for improving the system of intake and integration of people seeking refuge in Spain. The humanitarian intake and integration of these people are two fundamental aspects that should be taken into account by the EU and Spain alike.

NPM Report (National Preventive Mechanism) 2015

The Institution has presented the sixth annual report of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) which, in 2015, made 62 visits to places of deprivation of liberty and formulated 284 resolutions. The Administration has accepted 236 of them.
